L’italiano Restaurant Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

I've had worse, I just don't remember when. I'm giving L'italiano one whole star because the Calamari Fritti and sauce were both good and the food didn't make me sick. Oh yeah, the ambiance was nice as well. However, that pretty much ends the good news. My wife ordered the: FETTUCCINE CRAWFISH 16.95 Pasta with crawfish sautéed in a garlic olive oil and crushed red pepper sauce How a dish could be prepared with so little seasoning or flavor remains a total mystery (and in Louisiana no less). If there was salt used in the prep, I can't help but wonder if both grains made it into the pot. This pasta took the word bland to a new level. Red pepper sauce you say? Uh, not likely. Garlic oil? Absolutely not there - and of course if garlic was there at all, you'd know. My wife had to ask for an entire bowl of calamari dipping sauce to pour into the pasta in order to give it enough flavor to get half of it down. And BTW, who knew you could even harvest crawfish that small? Enough of that. Let's talk about the "good" dish. POLPETTE ALLA ROMANA 16.95 Braised meat balls baked in a mushroom, tomato, red wine demiglase sauce and served on a bed of Garlic olive oil spicy pasta Braised meatballs. OK, not GIANT meat balls to be sure, but slightly below average sized meatballs. Not a show stopper yet. 3 meatballs but not exactly baked in a mushroom (as describe above). In fact, they actually had canned/sliced button mushrooms lightly adorning the braised sides of the meatballs piled ever so delicately on an almost discernible spoonful of angel hair pasta. The demiglase sauce did provide some flavor, not a wonderful flavor, but at least a flavor. But the highlight by far was the beautiful and ever so "silky" pool of olive oil and water that the pasta/meatball island drifted lazily about the dish in. Just lovely! Haven't seen that floating pasta presentation done before. And let's not forget the service. Or, maybe we should. Unprofessional, listless and pretty much unremarkable (very much like the mini-bread). You go, Mike. I'm not saying that L'Italiano has assumed the Olive Garden "boiled plastic pouch" approach to pasta, but there was a serious lack of aroma in the establishment. Surprising when garlic, braised meat, oregano, simmering tomato sauce and onions are normally in heavy use in GOOD Italian restaurants. Just saying. If you like below average food, served by people who don't care and don't mind paying a tiny bit above average to eat in a nicely appointed restaurant, this is the place for you!

Got stranded at Shreveport due to a ice storm. Live in Colorado. Excellent Italian food! Wife and I split the braised meatballs entree and had crab cakes as an appetizer. Topped with a bottle of wine and Tiramisu for dessert. BRAVO! Waitress was extremely helpful, been there 9 years, getting a nursing degree. That tells you that she was very personable! Highly recommend, I travel all over and this is a great place!! Give it a try. Fresh "local" seafood. Prices were good.

Traveling alone can be tricky when it comes to dinner since most of the real restaurants don't offer tables for 1. But not this one. The people working there knew their job, were able to offer me the RIGHT wine for my selection and best of all I was able to order just a glass instead of a bottle. Just before I walked in it looked like that my experience would be authentic by the two old Italian guys who were sitting outside. The food was good but not perfect. The deserts though were divine (I had tiramisu).

Great food ! I've never been disappointed. A true Bossier City Treasure. I always have the Blackberry Ma Hi Ma Hi with spinach salad. Sitting here in my home enjoying this amazing dinner now. It's a must visit restaurant whether you live near or far.

Had the veal parmigiana, it was good. Wish I'd have not eaten so much bread to finish my meal...but the bread was so yummy!! Every one in my group enjoyed their meal and they had all the different meals.... Great cozy place!! ENJOY!!!

I had the chicken Parmesan it was tasty. I did not care for the Caesar salad or the lemon cello Martini very bitter. Very cool Decour and you can buy the paintings that are on the wall.

This restaurant claimed to be authentic Italian, but proved to be nothing more than a poor interpretation in my book. I've traveled Italy; I know real Italian food well. This was certainly not it. Maybe equivalent to Olive Garden but 5x the price. My boyfriend and I came here for our 4th year anniversary dinner. We wanted something upscale and quality food worth paying a large bill for. He ordered the tortellini and I ordered risotto. His tortellini was drowning in the tomato sauce. Let me just say that if it was a real Italian place, they should know how to pull off a good risotto. My risotto was awful. Pretty much a plate of rice with a bland, tasteless sauce over the top and some crawfish thrown in. I sent it back. With a $40 bottle of wine our bill still managed to come out to $110. That's insane for two people! Especially considering how mediocre the food was. Highlights: The waiter was friendly and helpful. The wine list was good (although over priced as well.) The decor and lighting was nice. The tomato sauce on the tortellini had good flavors and was tasty with some bread dipped in it.

This was a short walk from Horseshoe casino. We were seated right away on a Friday night at 9. The decor was very nice. They had a small selection of local beer which is a +1 for me. Good variety of choices on their menu. I got the pollo parmigiana, one of my favorite Italian dishes. It was OK. Not bad but nothing special either. It was expensive for being average. Wait staff was attentive. I'd probably come back and give this place another shot next time I'm in town. Looks to be a nice choice in the area in lieu of a chain restaurant.

I come here often and I always try to get something different every time. This time I got the Salsiccia Abbruzzese; which is a grilled Italian Sausage on a bed of spicy fettuccine pasta, with sautéed onions and peppers in white wine tomato sauce. It was delicious. And for dessert I got the special dessert an Italian Bread Pudding with a Italian glaze on top, which was to die for. This restaurant deserved every star, and I will continue to come and enjoy they're food.

Love this place! Great food, great service! They even have a $7 all you can drink wine bar on Tuesday nights! Quiet and romantic - great for date nights. I have celebrated birthdays and anniversaries here. Some nights, the owner will even sing in Italian - so beautiful!

Service was above average for the Shreveport-Bossier area, and hosted a pleasant atmosphere. The food was well portioned, and well plated which probably added to the flavor. Everything was delicious and would recommend everyone to try this if they like authentic Italian food.

Very, very disappointing. We were a party of seven having dinner at 5:30 on a Saturday evening. Waitress had zero personality which puts a damper on the dining experience. Took a rather long time for the food to come. We ordered fried calamari for an appetizer, and when it arrived it was lukewarm, at best. The calamari pieces were TINY. Our entrees were served lukewarm, as well. The food was good, but not out of the ordinary.

didn't discover this place until i was only going to be in shreveport for a little while, and what a shame! great food, fun environment that can be romantic if you want. it's in a seedy looking location, but hey, it's bossier! definitely miss going here

THIS PLACE IS FANTASTIC!!! The most authentic Italian food in Shreveport. I first came here for Valentine's Day 2009 with my husband and have been back twice since. It is pricey but it's so worth it. If your looking for a good authentic Italian inspired evening just take a step into L'Italiano.

This place has been around for quite a long time and came highly recommended. I was so impressed dining here for the first time, that I came back the following day again! So why the 3 star you ask? My first dinner was truly a 5 star experience, the food and service was top notch. I had the fish, which was cooked to perfection as was the accompanying crab and shrimp. I was not impressed at all with the side pasta, but the app calamari was cooked perfectly and between the bread and app; who cares about the pasta. The following day I came back set on ordering veal Marsala, in order to truly gage the quality of food leaving the kitchen. Also added a cup of soup, as dining alone this time, the app was just a bit much. Now for a $35 fish entrée, the portion was adequate, but for $21, the veal should have been sufficient as well, but alas it was not. Three thinly cut small portion of veal cutlets. The worst part of the entrée was the dreadful sauce (see pic). I have never seen so much oil used in a Marsala glaze. The dish was a big disappointment. As mentioned above, the side of pasta was the same unimpressive mess. I decided to try the much raved about tiramisu. I asked the server if the portion was large and she said it was enough for two. I figure ok, will eat half and take the rest for tomorrow. Then she brought out the slice and it was about 2x2. I glanced at it and thought "For 2, really?". The soup was not impressive either, loaded with overcooked vegetables and somewhat flavorless stock; I have had better at Olive Garden. On both nights the place was relatively empty, I guess it gets busy on the weekends. So what do I do with a 5 star one night and 2 the next? I think 3 is a fair score, but may come in again for fish.

The food here is really fantastic, but you'll definitely pay for it. I was kind of surprised by how expensive some of the items were but at the end of the meal I was beyond satisfied with the flavors and the quality of the food. I started with the insalata de spinacci. It's spinach leaves, hard boiled egg, bacon, with an amazing balsamic vinegar. This is actually a very small plate of salad for about $8 but the ingredients are high quality and it was very tasty. Then I had the fettuccini crawfish. Wow SO good! Olive oil, garlic and red pepper in the sauce. Just a little tingle. Crawfish is tender and very flavorful cause it's cooked in the sauce. Then I had to be bad and have their tiramisu. Wow! A very good coffee flavor, creamy and light, absolutely perfect dessert with a cup of their coffee! Enjoying the coffee out on their front porch was just so wonderful on a spring evening when the temperature and the weather was nice!

This charming establishment, adorned with scribblings on the wall, is perhaps one of the most solid restaurants in the Shreveport/Bossier area. There is a homey feel to the place, and it remains consistent after all these years. The service (for the most part) is great with servers who always remember regulars. It is my favorite Italian restaurant in the area. I'm shocked that the place has yet to be reviewed on Yelp until now. Perhaps people are trying to keep it a secret? FOOD: Dishes that are winners include the linguine with clams, spinach (not cooked a second too long), calamari, and many of their specials. The flavors are always on point and dishes are perfectly cooked. Chef Giovanni is a genius! The menu also has a wide selection and a more enticing range than some of the other Italian restaurants in town. SERVICE: Again, usually great. I've had some less than wonderful experience but the owner keeps a pretty tight ship. ATMOSPHERE: The place makes you feel right at home. It is pretty versatile for the casual to dressy patron. Caution: Like most Shreveport/Bossier establishments, this place is not open on Sundays.

I have to say: this restaurant is incredible. I just ate there last night with my relatives from out of town. It was a blast! The spinach is wonderful. (actually the calamari is well, pretty good) They have a wide variety of pastas. You HAVE to try the osso bucco. And to finish it off, a nice hot cup of cappucino and tiramisu. WOW.

Over all nice experience. Cheese sticks were not "fresh" but the dipping sauce was good. A little too pricy for what you get.

The food is pretty good but for me the price is way too high for anything they have. I went with friends one night and really wasn't very hungry and ordered a dinner salad and I'm not joking with you there was no more salad on a salad plate than on a hamburger. One very thin slice of tomato added to the lettuce. Wow I was so disappointed. The real disappointment came when the bill came....they charged me over $10 bucks for that. I'll not be back!

Getting there: The restaurant was easy to find on the right side of the road - on Barksdale Blvd. Parking was tight, but manageable. Upon entry, I was greeted by a young lady and Italian looking gentleman. While the young lady showed me to my table (I was eating solo), the gentleman was trying to "remember how to play Italian Solitaire." The setting: The restaurant would have a rather authentic feel to it, if all of the walls had not been scribbled upon by many of their previous clientele. They had - what seemed to be a nice bar for alcohol and a professional strength cafe machine (espresso machine). I arrived at about 6 P.M., so there weren't many other patrons there, and it was a Wednesday. As the young lady waited for me to sit, she asked what I would have to drink and promptly returned with my request. I asked for a few minutes to peruse the menu, then ordered the fried calamari for an appetizer and the Polpette alla Romano (Roman Meatballs) which was served with a sort of thin linguini with mushrooms, tomatoes, and a "spicy garlic and olive oil" sauce. The service was prompt and courteous. It could have been a result of being one of the few occupied tables in the establishment at the time. But, I have to assume - by the glowing remarks left by others - that this is normal. The food itself was Ok. My initial thoughts on the calamari was that it was cooked well. And to be fair, the "rings" were cooked well. They were tender, tasty, and not at all having a "rubbery" texture. However, when it came to the whole, small octopi, they still did not have the "rubbery" texture, but they did seem over-fried, as they tasted "oily" or "greasy". The pasta dish was also OK. The pasta itself was cooked properly al-dente, which is nice to see. However, there were merely three dime-sized tomato pieces, and probably three or four slices of - what seemed to be - a small to medium sized portobello mushroom. The sauce was definitely not spicy, though I could taste a "cooked" garlic taste. So, it was more of a milder, stewed flavour. It was also rather thin tasting - without much body. They topped the pasta with a few (three to four) 1" diameter meatballs - which was plenty for the amount of pasta served. Don't misunderstand. There was plenty of pasta as well, so you're not getting short-changed by the amount of pasta or meat. But the meat didn't have much taste either. After I finished my pasta, the young waitress asked if I would like some coffee or desert. I replied I would like a "cafe' macchiato." To which she responded that they can't make them. But they could make a cappuccino. I didn't want to seem impolite, so I asked for a cafe' instead (no macchiato). It seems to me, that if they can steam/froth milk for the cappuccino, then they should be able to make a macchiato. Maybe she just needs to be trained up on what a macchiato is. Overall, with the previous glowing remarks associated with the restaurant, maybe I was there on an "off-day" for them. But the staff seemed to have a "tired" attitude. There was none of the typical Italian sense of flair and style of presentation nor much passion for food. After hearing one of the waitstaff's accent, I'm fairly certain that some of them are Italian. While it's clear that some of the others are not. But, make the decision for yourself. Maybe I'm just "elitist" about Italian food and dining. I lived in Italy for 4.5 years, split almost equally between the north and the southern parts. I know what Italians are capable of when it comes to simple, but excellent food. I had high hopes for this restaurant, as everyone else has had excellent service and food from them. Hopefully, you do too.

First of all, let me say that the lasagna was excellent. If I were to go back to this place (which I may or may not), I would order the lasagna, split it with my wife, and probably call it a night. Unfortunately I allowed myself to be talked into ordering some sort of snapper fish dish that the waiter said was one of the specialties of the house. It was basically tasteless, with a couple of pieces of shrimp around it and some crab meat that had the taste and texture of having been frozen and re-heated in a microwave oven. The baked tilapia I've gotten in the food line for $7.99 at Paschal's in the Atlanta airport tasted 100% better than this piece of fish, for which I was charged over $35. My advice: if you go here, stay away from the chef's specials that the wait staff will attempt to up sell you. The service itself was mediocre at best. The waiter was way too unrefined and brusk to be working in a restaurant that is doing its best to be upscale. The lasagna was good, but probably not good enough to warrant a second visit.

Amazing food. My trust in local restaurants is doubled.. The owner who started as a chef has the passion to serve authentic Italian to Americans and he succeeded in doing so. The minestrone was delectable. Thinly Sliced salmon with piccata and pollo spinaci were fantastic. If u r visting the casinos in Shreveport, don't eat the junk in the casinos instead try this one.. Ciao..

Best Italian in Shreveport / Bossier... Which doesn't say too much but it's still the truth. Ambiance is romantic. Dimly lit, well dressed waiting staff. Candle on the table. This place is kind of a hidden gem. Most people don't know it exists which is too bad. I recommend it if you want nice italian food.

I am a total and complete Italian food snob. I grew up in NY, and over the years I've eaten in well over 100 Italian joints including places in Little Italy in NY and several other cites, as well as in Europe. I had not had a decent -- let alone good Italian meal in ages -- and certainly not in Lafayette, LA, where I live, as they have no clue here as to what good Italian food is. And if you think that Carraba's, or God forbid The Olive Garden is good Italian food, then you have never eaten real Italian food before. So I stumbled on L'Italiano the other day while riding my mountain bike through Bossier City. I walked into the place to check out the menu for a planned lunch outing later in the day.... and I just KNEW. This is the real McCoy I said to myself. So we come back a few hours later, sit down to eat, and we order the spinach salad, the fried breaded mushrooms with marinara, and the dish that IMO is the dish that sets the standard at almost any Italian place - Spaghetti and meatballs. The fried mushrooms arrived. Crisp, perfectly cooked, and draped with just a little bit or marinara. These were the best fried mushrooms I've ever eaten... ever. They were delicious balls of Italian perfection. period. The Spaghetti then arrived. Can you say "perfect meatballs and spaghetti?". I can. and while my friend said the marinara was not spicy enough, she is Cajun, and everything she eats needs to be spicy or else it sucks... and Spaghetti and MB is not a spicy dish. The perfect Spag and MB has a mild tomato sauce, and the meatballs are the spicy part of the dish. And they were. Italian meatball nirvana and L'Italiano is Italian food nirvana. One of the best Italian meals I've ever had. The owner is from Milan, and it is pretty damned obvious that he learned his trade in Italy,. This stuff is as authentic as it gets, and as good as it gets. There is no better Italian food in Shreveport, and I doubt here is any that's even close to L'Italiano, Five stars.

Seriously, good Italian food here. Approachable and charming place with a funky old school Italian vibe. My wife and I both pleased with our visit. They're making real food here, not pouring it from a can. Dessert wasn't the best, but all things considered - the better part of 4.5 stars. I'll be back for sure.

Great date place. Had the snapper special and crab cakes split between hubs and myself. Very good food but pricey-total for the two was $61 with tip. Kinda scary neighborhood and parking was minimal. Very friendly staff.

My husband and I must have a 2nd meal curse...we visited this restaurant 2 weeks ago and really enjoyed our meal and experience. So much so that I couldnt stop thinking about it and we returned last weekend. This time we started with the meat and cheese appetizer and were completely turned off. (The calamari we had last week was really good!) The Piatto Freddo greatly resembled rolled up lunch meat, no lovely presentation at all. It was such a poor dish, and greatly overpriced! I ordered the same meal (Polpette alla romana, caution: spicy!, but you can ask for the spice on the side) and loved it again. My husband, not so much. He ordered the Frutti di mare and while he enjoys seafood, he did not enjoy this dish. He was really disappointed with the meal this time. I was indifferent.

L'Italiano is a such an intimate and authentic dining experience. Each time that I have been there, the waitstaff always gives great info about menu & wine choices. Not often in Shreveport-Bossier do you find a waiter who knows the history of a bottle of wine. This is just one of the nice touches of this restaurant. My menu choice is usually the Cannelloni or the eggplant parmesan. If you are lucky, the owner will sing a bit of opera for you.

  • Josh D.

I'm not a Italian food snob but I do enjoy a great meal combined with a great atmosphere. You will get both here. The service is second to none. The staff was very knowledgable of the menu. My wife and I will definitely be back. Any negative reviews are probably coming from people that can't be pleased with any restaurant they go to. Stop reading this and make plans to get there soon.

Really hoping for a nice dinner tonight based on the limited reviews. I was very excited to see osso buco on the menu as a special this night as we had been traveling from Houston today and I was craving this dish. I will start by stating that I am a closet chef and I love preparing this dish. That being said, after seeing the dish as a special on the menu at 28.95, I was excited to experience this savory dish. 30 bucks is a lot to pay at any restaurant so I asked the waitress if that price would be justified. I also asked if I would be rewarded with a dish that at would satisfy by not being a glorified tomato sauce, I needed a true veal stock fortified creation. I was assured that this was in fact what I could expect. Disappointment: I did in fact receive exactly what I feared, a nice veal shank that was indeed tender, but was complemented by a "Cisco" grade tomato sauce that had little life of its own. Also, I feel that the chef, in an effort to step up his presentation, topped the shank with mozzarella cheese???? A savory dish such as this needs no accents! Others at my table were very satisfied with their menu dishes, so I give a three out of five rating. I know that I am a tough critic, but I feel that I asked the right questions ahead of time. Not what I was promised. Defiantly not worth the price. : Really hoping for a nice dinner tonight based on the limited reviews. Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
